First5 | Early Career
The first 5 years of practice after obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) is an exciting time as you put learning into practice but it can also be full of challenges as you adjust. There are a variety of exciting opportunities and support programmes for early career GPs, with more new schemes to come.
First5 Groups
Dr Adam Mulla is the Leicester Leicestershire Rutland Training Hub GP First5 Lead. He is working to build peer support networks for First5 GPs working in and around our area. The format includes face-to-face or virtual evening meetings, WhatsApp groups and one-to-one advice or signposting. There are WhatsApp groups for First5 GPs to network, share thoughts and discuss challenges. Please contact the First5 GP Lead if you would like to join a WhatsApp group.
RCGP First5 Scheme
The RCGP has an established ‘First 5’ scheme, an initiative to support GPs in the first five years after qualifying – post MRCGP through to revalidation. Members can benefit from access to mentors, networking, and education.

Fellowship in General Practice
As detailed in the recent 2020 GP Contract, there is a new nationwide offer of a Fellowship in General Practice. This 2-year scheme is open to any GP who has qualified in the last 12 months and offers a funded package of support that your employing practice can sign you up for.
