She was appointed to LPT in July 2019, when NHFT provided a buddy trust support relationship to LPT. In April 2020 both trusts formed a group model recognising mutual opportunities to continue to learn together whilst maintaining separate organisations.
Angela’s NHS career spans 36 years, starting initially as a Speech & Language therapist, before holding a variety of leadership positions. Angela has been listed in the HSJ Top 50 rated CEOs five times in the past seven years, named as number one in 2023. In July 2019 Angela was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Northampton for her leadership contribution and in 2023 was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List, receiving a CBE for her contribution to healthcare.
Angela’s ethos is in her commitment to upholding the highest values, listening and learning, and developing compassionate cultures for those we work with and for those we care for. Co-production and involvement with patients, service users and carers are a priority, particularly in relation to tackling health inequalities and reaching out to local communities to transform mental health and community health services together for the best patient and service user outcomes.

Mandy worked in the NHS for 31 years and has a first-class BA (Hons) in Health Studies and an MSc in Managing Change. She is a qualified performance coach and as passionate about nursing as the day she set foot in the Leicester Royal Infirmary as a student nurse!
Mandy has worked in many key nursing positions in England – from a ward sister in Gynaecology and Women’s Health to key leadership and Board positions: responsible for leading nurses and midwives during the creation of University Hospitals of Leicester and then as Deputy Chief Executive, NHS Leicester City.
She also worked as a nurse researcher and nurse leader in Labrador and Uganda with the Grenfell and Mildmay charities respectively, with articles published in key nursing journals. After a visit to Cuba she developed professional links with nursing colleagues – sharing ideas and innovations. Mandy believes nursing and midwifery are global professions and works hard to see the leadership links across the world that bind us all together.
The recipient of many awards, she is a Florence Nightingale Scholar and most notably received her OBE for services to healthcare and nursing (2010). Mandy continued to immerse herself in the health quality and improvement agenda during her appointment in 2011 as Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean for the Faculty and Health and Life Sciences at De Montfort University, Leicester; she has recently been appointed as Pro Chancellor.
Mandy founded her own company in September 2014 and is the Managing Director of Mandy Ashton Consultants Ltd; a values-based company in south Leicestershire. She works alongside policy makers and leaders, care givers, patients, and families. Mandy gives some of her time and experience to local charities in Leicester and has recently completed a six year tenure as a Trustee within the Housing Association sector.
Mandy is a mother and wife, has a wicked sense of humour, enjoys playing tennis and swims every other day.
