Established in 2014, Leicester Women in Medicine (LWIM) is a network which aims to support and inspire individuals by developing a positive and active community. Creating a forum through which individuals can connect with each other, support each other and grow through shared experiences. Collectively, LWIM aims to foster a change in culture. Leicester Women in Medicine aspires to motivate and support women in medicine
LWIM was founded by Dr Kath Higgins in recognition of the need for a network inclusive to all which nurtures an ethos of inspiring and supporting the female medical workforce. As the network has grown it has welcomed women who study or work in all aspects of healthcare in LLR (Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland)
LWIM was initiated as a series of in person events and meetings. During the pandemic the network switched to a Facebook closed group to maintain connection between members. Since then the network has maintained a Facebook channel in parallel with in person events and meetings which have included workshops, speakers, social events and walks.
